Walk For Hope

Thailand is currently sheltering more than 85,000 Myanmar refugees who fled their war-ravaged country.  These refugees are housed in nine refugee camps along the border between Thailand and Myanmar.  The main medical clinic that trains the medical personnel for the satellite clinics found in the nine camps and provides supplies to them is the Mae Tao Clinic.

When USAID stopped the funding for the Mae Tao Clinic in February, the clinic lost 700,000 USD of their annual funding.   That funding loss put pregnant women in jeopardy for prenatal care and adequate delivery facilities.  Kidney dialysis patients had to travel to another city in hopes of receiving treatment.  Essential medicines ran down to only a one-month supply.   The funding loss puts lives at risk and health care in jeopardy for refugees who have already experienced hardship and trauma by having to leave their country.

Our Connecting Families supporters partnered with Singaporean Jeshua Soh in March as he walked 500 kilometers from Bangkok to the Mae Tao Clinic to raise awareness and funding to help offset the funding shortfall at the clinic.   Jeshua's March For Hope raised 112,000 USD for the Mae Tao Clinic.  You can help us continue to support the clinic through the link below.
